Today, Honoured Worker of Physical Education and Sports, Chair of the Fencing Federation of Saratov Region, Associate Professor of the Department of Sports and Physical Education, SSU, Igor Petelin celebrates his 80th birthday.

He is a coach of the SSU fencing team, Master of Sports of the USSR in fencing, coach of the sabre department of the regional sports school of the Olympic reserve in fencing, as well as a judge of the republican category.

Igor Petelin has been associated with Saratov State University for more than 50 years of work. He started fencing back in 1956. Then he began developing it at the university.

Since 1968, under his leadership, the SSU team has become the champion and prize-winner of the All-Russian Universiade, and the university fencing team annually takes prizes at interuniversity, regional, and all-Russian competitions.

His students are part of the national fencing team of Saratov Region, they became winners of regional and all-Russian championships.

Now, Igo Petelin continues practicing fencing, participates in veteran competitions, being a multiple champion of Russia and the winner of the Cup of Russia.

The SSU staff congratulates the anniversary celebrant and wishes him long life, good health, grateful students, and new achievements.
