Saratov State University is preparing for the XI International Symposium on Optics and Biophotonics and the XXVII International Interdisciplinary School for Junior Scientists and Students in Optics, Laser Physics & Biophotonics – Saratov Fall Meeting, which will be held from September 25 to September 29.

Experts from Russia, China, Brazil, Israel, India, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, South Africa, and other countries will take part in the forum.

Their purposes are to present the latest developments in optical and laser technologies and talk about their application in biology and medicine. Scientists from all over the world are to discuss the issues of mechanics and control of the properties of tissues and cells, coherent optics, materials science, laser physics, spectroscopy, molecular modelling, nanophotonics, and nanobiophotonics. Due to the research in these areas, they will be able to find new ways to diagnose and treat cancer, viral and bacterial respiratory infections, complications of diabetes, as well as cognitive diseases.

Breakout sessions and seminars will be held as part of the symposium. The plenary reports will be delivered by scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sirius University, and professors of leading universities in the USA and China. They will consider the issues of personalised treatment of aggressive forms of glial tumours, tissue imaging in the diagnosis of skin and mucous membranes, early diagnosis and therapy of metastatic tumours, as well as breakthrough technologies of neurorehabilitation medicine.

The scientists will focus on fundamental studies of the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with biological tissues and cells. The experts will show a variety of laser and optical technologies for medical diagnostics, therapy, surgery, and light dosimetry. Optogenetics, plasmonics, and biosensorics will be the reference points of the conference.

High school students, undergraduates, and postgraduates can participate in the XXVII International Interdisciplinary School. For them, the scientists will hold seminars and panel discussions on technology commercialisation, English as a tool in the scientific community, as well as the history, methodology, and philosophy of optical education.

A significant part of the SFM will traditionally be the Chinese-Russian seminar on biophotonics and biomedical optics and the continuation of the II scientific seminar of the BRICS countries on biophotonics, which started on May 16, 2023 — the International Day of Light.

Saratov Fall Meeting is the main conference on biophotonics in Russia, which annually brings together world-renowned scientists. The event is part of the Technologies of Personalised Medicine strategic project of Saratov State University of the Priority-2030 programme of the Russian Ministry of Higher Education and Science.

This year, the conference is dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the 95th anniversary of the VI Congress of the Russian Association of Physicists. You can find out more about the symposium on the website.
