Saratov State University together with the Ministry of Education of the region from April 20 to 22 for the first time are to hold the Step into the Teaching Profession olympiad. The competition is held for students of pedagogical classes of schools and the SSU Pedagogical Classroom. 170 schoolchildren of the region will become participants.

The university took the initiative to hold the Olympiad. ‘As the only university in the region that trains teachers, we are aware of working in this direction as an obligatory part of our mission to saturate the region with teaching staff. The Ministry of Education of the region together with SSU have developed a plan to eliminate the shortage of teaching staff in the Saratov region. There are many projects in it, including the early profiling of schoolchildren who are thinking about their professional future. In this sense, the project of the university pedagogical class can be called a response to the social order of the region. This year we are holding a pedagogical olympiad for the first time. It will allow the winners to receive an additional four points, which will be taken into account when entering the SSU,’ Professor Elena Yelina the curator of the project, Head of Priority Projects and Programmes, said.

Preparations for the Olympics have been carried out since December 2022. Registration of participants took place on the basis of the university, during which schoolchildren showed an active interest in pedagogical directions.

The programme of the upcoming competition includes five areas: From the History of Pedagogical Thought, Fundamentals of Teacher-Student Communication, Analysis of Pedagogical Situations, Pedagogical Support of Talented Children, Fundamentals of the Educational Digital Environment.

The competition itself will be held on April 21 in the classrooms in Bldg. 11. On April 20, a consultation will be held for the participants in the Assembly Hall of Bldg. 11. It will start at 4 p.m.

Excursions have been prepared at the university for schoolchildren who came to the Olympics: on the campus, to the Museum of the SSU History, the SSU Museum of Physical Devices, the Department of Rare Books of the SSU Scientific Library, the Laboratory of Smart Sleep, and the Vivarium.
