On 19 February the Neoflex SSU Data Science Laboratory was opened at the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, Saratov State University. It is a mutual project of SSU and Neoflex, the leading company to develop IT platforms for digital business transformation.
The ceremony was attended by the university administration, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics Andrei M. Zakharov, Chair of the Department of Functions and Approximations Theory Sergei P. Sidorov, Head of the lab Julia S. Kruss, Saratov Region CEO of Neoflex Roman B. Rodionov, and the Neoflex CEOs of the Finance Markets and Risks Department.
The ceremony members discussed the work of the lab with SSU Rector Aleksei N. Chumachenko. They also commented on the key aspects of cooperation between the university community and the business departments of the company.
“Our goals are to promote a new way of cooperation and help businesses fulfil their potential as well as help the university implement their ideas. We hope our cooperation will be productive and we will share our experience. Surely, the lab will become the unique platform to organise educational intensives, do the research, discuss various issues, and implement innovation ideas,” marked regional CEO Roman Rodionov.
According to Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics Andrei M. Zakharov, students will have internships in the new laboratory, and they will have an opportunity to work there after graduation.
“We are opening a laboratory of a new type and we feel like pioneers. Nevertheless, Saratov University has all the necessary resources to make a proper research-to-education centre out of it. We will not only teach students here but lay the groundwork for the research in data analysis and computer-aided learning,” underlined Andrei Zakharov.
Neoflex Co-CEO of the Finance Markets and Risk Management Technologies Aleksei Antonov expressed his opinion about it.
“Today we are focused on risk management and the projects in logistics. We are interested in coming up with new ideas and test new methods. We can use the laboratory as the platform to create ideas and develop business.”
Chair of the Department of Functions and Approximations Theory Sergei Sidorov commented that he would help to find the staff members for the lab.
The next meeting will be organised soon, and there the company and university representatives will discuss the cooperation plans.
The mail goal of the laboratory will be to implement the research projects in Data Mining using the advanced methods of AI, computer-aided learning, and statistical modelling, especially when big data will be analysed. The results of the research will be used in bank risk management, including different aspects of credit risk and client behaviour modelling. Besides, depending on the laboratory discoveries marketing companies will be given recommendations to improve their work.
