Victory Day address of SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko

Dear university students and staff, dear veterans! I congratulate you on the great holiday, the Victory Day!

We meet Victory Day full of sad memories of those who did not live to see the bright day of May 9, 1945. The war took millions of our fellow citizens. Among them are those whose names are eternalized on our memorial. Memories of them are kept in our hearts forever. More than 600 SSU students and workers went to the front in the beginning of the war. Many of them were awarded orders and medals for their bravery and courage.

We pay the tribute to the memory of those who stayed in the university and worked to make the Victory closer. It was the most difficult time: SSU workers participated in harvesting in kolkhoz and sovkhoz organizations, built military defenses, were part of Saratov people’s volunteer army. Head of chemical defense headquarters was SSU Associate Professor Frontasiev, Victor Pavlovich. With gratitude for her hard labor and saving the university we remember SSU Scientific Library Director V.A. Artisevich who managed the University while D.I. Luchinin was at the front.

The University provided scientific and technical support to defense industry. During the war, SSU solved over 1500 applied problems. Among them is the recipe of flame liquid for tank destruction and construction of flame liquid grenade, maps for officer corps, weather forecasts and reports for aviation, and lots of other things.

We are proud of our colleagues, of all those who made this Victory possible! We are proud of our country! Victory Day is the greatest holiday for us.

Dear veterans! As always, we rely on you because you are an example of true patriotism for young people. You help us understand the horrible war and our country’s contribution to the Victory. Thank you! Be healthy!
