Dear veterans, faculty members, workers and students of Saratov State University!
This year, our country celebrates a great day, the 70th Anniversary of the Great Patriotic War Victory!
Saratov State University made a great contribution into the war with fascists. Over 600 students and university professor were off at the front at the first days of the war. Among them were the University rector D.I. Luchinin, Faculty of History Dean B.S. Zevin, young scientists E.I. Pokusaev, S.V. Solomonov, A.A. Ponomarev, A.V. Fortunatov, I.S. Mustafin, I.P. Ryazanov, A.V. Ermolaev and many others. They all selflessly defended their Motherland.
In spring 1942, Leningrad University students and staff were evacuated to Saratov. Saratov University workers prepared the best dormitory rooms for them, organized food for the weak, and did their best to make sure Leningrad colleagues felt at home.
Every year we gather at the Memorial sacred to the memory of those who died at the Great Patriotic War to pay tribute to people who were at the front, who defended our Motherland from fascists, liberated the occupied territories. We also remember and honour those who unsparingly worked at the home front making the Victory day come closer.
The Victory Day is a sacred holiday when we honour and thank people who did not spare themselves for the peace. Dear veterans, you are a perfect example of bravery and courage! We are endlessly grateful for your self-sacrificing deeds and your stamina!
