On April 5, Saratov State University hosted joined Doors Open Day of the Faculty of Nonlinear Processes, Faculty of Physics, and Faculty of Nano- and Biomedical technologies.

The event took the traditional format of the Science Day. School students learnt about university application procedures, heard a lecture on scientific schools and watched some experiments.

The guests gathered at the Large Physical lecture theatre at Bldg. III where Saratov physics took off in 1914. The prospective students had a chance to see posters, leaflets, presentations and films about faculties’ history and achievements.

Faculty of Nano- and Biomedical technologies Dean S.B. Venig talked about educational programs and drew attention to the total number of state-funded places. 280 places  are available in 2015. Prof. Venig also talked about entering examinations and employment prospects. “People often ask me if it’s difficult to study at my faculty. I always say that studying is always difficult no matter where or what you study. We support outstanding students offering them financial aid, social and grant support”, said S.B. Venig.

Faculty of Nonlinear Processes Dean Yu.I. Levin talked about employment prospect. He emphasized the advantages for graduate student who get well-balanced basic education in physics, mathematics, IT and foreign languages. “When you enter labour market the smarter and more educated you more the bigger your chances are for finding an interesting and well-paid job”, said Prof. Levin. “Our education makes you competitive and gives you an opportunity to work in different spheres, e.g. science, business, education, etc.”.

University graduates work at the leading industrial companies, research institutions, and large international companies of Saratov. SSU has close ties with such city enterprises as “Tantal”, “Almaz”, “Contact” and others.

Then faculty representatives talked about specifics and advantages of physical education in the university. Chair of the Department of Radiophysics and Nonlinear Dynamics Prof. V.S. Anishenko explained the essence of university education: “Our university has a rich history; its structure is universal, each faculty ensures the highest quality of education”.

Chair of the Department of Optics and Biophotonics V.V. Tuchin gave some examples of successful international work of SSU graduates. He also told about the department work in writing textbooks and monographs that are used in many countries, about international scientific conferences like «Saratov Fall Meeting».

The Science Day finished with traditional experiments demonstration. Faculties and departments’ achievements were presented on multiple exhibition stands.

At the end of the meeting Faculty of Physics Dean V.M. Anikin answered guests’ questions.
