Innovative Center “Perspective Materials” research results and “Tailored Materials” lab innovations are of great interest to state administration representatives who visit Saratov State University. On March 25, S.V. Salikhov, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of the Russian Federation Ministry for Education and Science visited the Center and the lab at the Reflector plant. He saw the innovations and sample materials produced by SSU Innovative enterprises, went on excursion around the premises and learnt about the superfine fiber materials development technology stages.

The visit started at the stage where medical products with nanofiber membranes are made. S.V. Salikhov also saw adhesive plaster and chitosan wound coat. Director of the “Perspective Materials” Center K.V. Khrustitski told about the unique equipment used in production. It has a significant advantage – it allows to produce a range of adhesive plasters of different size: large ones that are used in hospitals and small ones available at pharmacy. All materials used in production are made in Russia which makes these unique medical products commercially viable. SSU President L.Yu. Kossovich said the adhesive plaster, wound coat and medical wear are undergoing certification.

After that Yu.E. Salkovski, Head of the laboratory, gave a tour around the lab presenting the equipment and demonstrating an experiment that presented the water-proof and vapor-permeable characteristics of the material.

Then S.V. Salikhov learnt about the superfine fiber materials development technology at SSU. Ministry for Education and Science policy for university innovative development gave SSU a powerful momentum after the University won the innovative educational programs competition in 2007 and has been successfully implementing its National Research University Development Program. The programs allowed making a fast progress from lab research to ready product and launching a project for development of military equipage masking materials. The project is implemented by the “Tailored Materials” lab founded in collaboration with the Foundation for Prospective Studies and Ministry for Education and Science.

SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko mentioned two other innovative centers at SSU - Research and Technology Center “Micro- and Nano-electronics” and Research and Technology Center – which S.V. Salikhov would like to visit next time.
