On February 27, Saratov State University hosted the Year of Literature opening ceremony. Important guests attended the event, among them were Saratov Region Governor Radaev, V.V., Saratov Region Federal Inspector Aleshina, M.V., the chair of Saratov Region Civic Chamber Lando, A.S., SSU Rector Chumachenko, A.N., SSU President Kossovich, L.Yu., Saratov Region Duma and Administration members, representatives of universities, religious and cultural organizations, and war veterans.
Saratov Region Governor Radaev, V.V. congratulated the guests on the important cultural event and highlighted the role of literature among arts. “On the Year of Literature emblem we see familiar profiles – Gogol, Pushkin, Akhmatova. And we know dozens of writers of the same level: Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Bunin, Chekhov… Fortunately, this list is never-ending”, said the Governor.
Radaev, V.V. believes the Year of Literature will help at finding new writers. He also mentioned famous artists from Saratov Region and those who visited our land: Mayakovsky, Bulgakov, Simonov, etc.
Year of Literature campaign has established the following goals: making books accessible for people regardless of how remote their place of residence is; promoting books and reading; providing opportunities for children and young people in developing their literary talents.
Actors of Saratov theaters recited some works of famous Russian writers. The guests also heard classical music pieces: waltz from Lermontov’s “Masquerade”, Tsvetaeva’s “To the Generals of the 1812”, Pakhmutova’s songs, etc. There were also video presentations with images of world literature classics – Turgenev, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Shukshin, Hemingway, Salinger, Bradbury and others.
Year of Literature campaign has establisged its main goal of promoting literature and reading among people.
Saratov publishers plan releasing 20 books for children and young adults, 25 natural history projects, over 400 scientific and educational books. Regional government is organizing the First Inter-regional Book Fair “Volga Wave”. Regional libraries will hold workshops, talks, presentations and literary competitions.
