Turkmen Delegation Visited University

A delegation from Turkmenistan headed by Consul General Guich Garayev arrived in Saratov for the 2nd Smart City. Sport is Life All-Russian Games. On September 8, the guests visited Saratov State University.

At first, they met with the university administration, namely SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Dmitrii Konakov, and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Igor Malinskii.

Saratov State University has long-lasting relations with the Asian state, 1,381 students from Turkmenistan are studying at our university.

‘Students from Turkmenistan make up the main part of international students at our university. We try to create for them the most comfortable conditions to study and live here. It is important also to help Turkmen students adapt to the Russian youth environment, as well as participate in university and city events,’ Aleksei Chumachenko said.

According to Vice-Rector Dmitrii Konakov, Saratov State University has developed a programme for the social and cultural adaptation of international students, and the students from Turkmenistan have the opportunity to attend trainings, excursions, participate in sports and cultural events such as Miss Navruz, Student Spring, and University Snowflake.

Participating in the social and cultural activities of the university together with Russian students, the students from other countries feel like a part of the student community and faster adapt to the local environment.

‘Saratov is a multicultural city; many national holidays have become common for all nationalities living here. Every year, more than fifty different events are held in the region aimed at developing ethnic and cultural diversity, preserving traditions and strengthening interethnic ties,’ the rector added.

The meeting members discussed the feedback from graduates studying in Russia. According to the SSU Rector, this process plays an important role in assessing the quality of professional training of students and improving the range of educational services.

At the end of the meeting with the rector, the guests from Turkmenistan visited the museum of Saratov State University and left an entry in the book of SSU honourary guests.

As part of the delegation's visit to Saratov State University, Consul General Guich Garayev met with the Turkmen students in the Big Physical Hall. They discussed the conditions of study and residence, rules of conduct in the Russian Federation, migration issues, and prospects for further employment.
