Chair of SSU Student Union Olga Takunova won the IX Volga Federal District round of the XIII All-Russia “Student Leader – 2015” competition.

The competition took place at Ulyanovsk State Pedagogical University from 7th to 10th of July. The participants demonstrated their skills and knowledge in 5 competitions. On the first day they had “Self-portrait” competition where they presented themselves and their student union organization. Olga Takunova also talked about Saratov in her presentation. Saratov team made a video about our region that could be interesting for tourists as well as city dwellers. “For instance, not many people know that the first provincial music conservatory was opened in Saratov as well as the first children theater - Saratov Academic Kiselev Youth Theater”, explained Olga.

This year the competition program included the “Infographica” contest that required making a presentation and a leaflet on student legislation issues. Olga Takunova successfully managed to explain the governmental decrees № 679 and № 945 concerning student scholarships.

As the winner said the most exciting part was “Union Committee Meeting”. During open discussion the competitors had to use their knowledge of union work. The participants had to choose their point of view on a situation and defend it. “The situation was announced on the stage”, shared SSU Student Union Chair. “I was afraid the tasks would be too difficult and impossible but I worried for nothing. After that competition my rating continued to grow”.

Union Chair should know the legislation well to help students in difficult situations. Next contest was “Legal orientation”. Blitz contest included 20 questions to answer in 2 minutes. That was a final competition of the district round.

Support groups also had a good time. They had an educational program including lectures, round table discussions, quests, master classes and excursion round Ulyanovsk historical center.

Olga Takunova won the “Union Avant-garde” nomination and was announced the winner of the IX Volga Federal District round of “Student Leader – 2015” competition. Julia Avdonina from Penza was second. First and second prize winners would represent Volga Federal District in Divnomorsk in September.

Congratulating the contestants, Ulyanovsk Region Governor S.I. Morozov said the country needs highly qualified specialists and workers in different areas. “We need young managers who will build civil society, who will solve priority tasks in education, health care, politics, industry, IT, etc.”

Upon return to Saratov Olga Takunova shared her impressions. The competition meant a lot to her: “I achieved this from the third try; winning was the most important thing for me”. There are two months before the All-Russia competition but Olga has already started to prepare: “This year was very successful for our organization, but there are still things to work on. My goal is to be among top three leaders in Russia”.
