Ceremonial opening of a student TV studio of Saratov State University Department of Electronic Media and Communications at STRBC “Saratov” took place on July, 1.

Among the guests were Head of the Governor’s administration O.V. Goriacheva, Deputy minister of Information and Media S.V. Bakal, Deputy minister of Education I.V. sedova, SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko, STRBC “Saratov” Director D.P. Petrov, Vice-rector for educational work E.G. Elina, Institute of Philology and Journalism scientific advisor V.V. Prozorov, Chair of the Department of Electronic Media and Communications A.V. Rossoshanski, TV studio staff and veterans, SSU students and other guests.

The ceremony started with the visit to STRBC museum. TV company veteran T.A. Pashkina gave a tour. The museum has photos of the company staff of different years and multiple exhibits that have become objects of great rarity: video cameras, spotlights, typewriters, etc. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to the 70th Anniversary of the Great Patriotic War Victory.

SSU and STRBC have been working closely for many years. University teachers often give expert comments for journalists programs and projects, students complete their training here, many of them start their career at STRBC and then, after gaining the necessary experience, move on to work on federal TV channels.

“This friendship resulted at founding a university department at STRBC; today we’ve reached a new stage in our cooperation – opening of student TV studio. It is located in a historic room – the very first news block was aired from this room in 1957, it is the birthplace of Saratov TV. Today young journalists continue this tradition”, said T.A. Pashkina.

A.V. Rossoshanski reminded everyone how STRBC and SSU started working together. He praised SSU President L.Yu. Kossovich and V.V. Prozorov for their contribution as they were a driving force behind the department foundation. “We have done a lot so that students could have a studio like this. Here they will learn how to be a journalist and become good specialists under the guidance of their experienced colleagues”, added A.V. Rossoshanski.

In his speech SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko said: “Under the National Research University Development Program we pay great attention to the university innovative development, but we must not forget about educational work. And today we can see that education at SSU is very important. Under the program, we bought new equipment. It is of utmost importance that SSU students get high quality education. Opening this studio I believe that young people who will work here will adequately represent Saratov University. Maybe, some of them will continue working here, at STRBC”. The Rector also mentioned that the studio is open for journalists from other regions.

STRBC “Saratov” Director D.P. Petrov highlighted the fact that, in the new studio, the students would not only study theory, they would also do practical work. They could make their own pieces and programs. “The studio is equipped at the state-of-the-art level; we have HD cameras that are still quite rare even at some TV companies; we have modern lighting, space for editing, and all necessary software”.

V.V. Prozorov also reminded of the long ties between STRBC and SSU. He shared his memories of hosting radio program “Russian Word”. “It is great SSU and STRBC train journalists together immersing them in a special culture”, said V.V. Prozorov.

After the opening ceremony the guests had a tour around the new studio where students had already started working. They were making just another journalist piece. It proves that the joint project of SSU and STRBS is popular among young journalists.
