SUMMARY OF THE CHAPTER ACTIVITIES
1. Conferences information:
The Chapter participated in technical co-sponsorship of 2 conferences:
1) Sixth conference for young scientists “Nanoelectronics, Nanophotonics and Nonlinear Physics”, September 13–15, 2011. The conference was hosted by Saratov Branch of the Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics, Russian Academy of Science (IRE RAS) with technical and financial co-sponsorship of IEEE Saratov–Penza Chapter.

- The conference was attended by Russian IEEE Section Chair Prof. S.A. Nikitov who met with the Saratov/Penza Chapter Officers and discussed current activities and future plans of the Chapter.
- 4 IEEE members: Prof. B.D. Zaitzev, Prof. N.M. Ushakov, Prof. D.I. Trubetskov, and Prof. S.P. Kuznetsov served as members of the Program Committee. Prof. D.I. Trubetskov also served as a Plenary Lecturer.
- IEEE Member Dr. Irene E. Kuznetsova chaired the Local Technical Committee.
- Conference program included 3 Plenary Lectures presented by invited speakers, 63 talks and 28 posters presented by young scientists and students. The presentations were divided in 4 sessions: “Optics and nanophotonics”, “Acousto and magnetoelectronics”, “Nonlinear physics”, “Micro and nanoelectronics, nanomaterials and nanostructures”.
- Over 100 participants from many Russian universities and research institutions, as well as foreign guests from Germany, Poland and Japan attended the conference.
- The book of abstracts was published and distributed at the conference.
2) School “Nonlinear Days in Saratov” for young scientists, postgraduate, undergraduate and pre-college students, November 15–16, 2011. Such schools have been organized each year since 1998 by Saratov State University (SSU) with technical and financial co-sponsorship of Saratov/Penza IEEE Chapter.
- Chairman: Prof. Dmitry I. Trubetskov (IEEE member)
- IEEE members Prof. Y.I. Levin, Prof. Y.P. Sharaevsky and Prof. N.M. Ryskin served as Organizing Committee members responsible for technical program.
- 20 talks and 24 posters were presented by undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- The volume of conference full-text papers will be published in early 2012.
2. Chapter Workshop & IEEE Day celebration information:
1) On May 19, 2011 the biannual Chapter Workshop “Electromagnetics of Microwaves, Terahertz and Optical Waves” was hold in Saratov State Technical University. Such workshops have been organized once a year since 1995. Since 2011 the Chapter decided to organize the workshop twice a year. At the beginning of the Workshop, the activity reports were presented by Chapter Chair Prof. N.M. Ryskin and Vice-Chair Prof. M.V. Davidovich. After the workshop, a reception for IEEE members and guests was hold.
- 15 IEEE Members and 5 guests attended the Workshop.

2) On October 6, 2011 second part of the biannual Workshop “Electromagnetics of Microwaves, Terahertz and Optical Waves” was organized in Saratov State University. After the workshop, reception and celebration of the IEEE Day was organized.
At the beginning of the Workshop, 2011 Chapter activity report was presented by the Chapter Chair, Prof. N.M. Ryskin.
12 IEEE Members and 5 guests attended the Workshop.
7 talks were presented, concerning various topics of electronics and microwave electrodynamics.

4. Other Chapter activities:
A book of collected papers “Modeling in Applied Electrodynamics and Electronics” Issue 10 (Saratov University Press, ISSN 1816-8221) is published. Such books have been published each 1-2 years since 1998. Editor in Chief is Prof. M.V. Davidovich (Chapter Vice-Chair). Associate Editor is Prof. N.M. Ryskin (Chapter Chair). The book contains 10 research papers devoted to various problems of electromagnetic theory, simulation of microwave technique (waveguides, resonators, etc.), and vacuum and solid-state electron devices.
