Summary of the Chapter activities


1. Conferences information:

The Chapter participated in technical and financial co-sponsorship of 4 conferences:
1) Fifth conference for young scientists “Nanoelectronics, Nanophotonics and Nonlinear Physics”, September 6–8, 2010. The conference was hosted by Saratov Branch of the Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics, Russian Academy of Science (IRE RAS) with technical and financial co-sponsorship of IEEE Saratov–Penza Chapter.

  • The conference was attended by Russian IEEE Section Chair Prof. S.A. Nikitov who met with the Saratov/Penza Chapter Officers and discussed current activities and future plans of the Chapter.
  • 4 IEEE members: Prof. B.D. Zaitzev, Prof. N.M. Ushakov, Prof. D.I. Trubetskov, and Prof. S.P. Kuznetsov served as members of the Program Committee. Prof. D.I. Trubetskov also served as a Plenary Lecturer.
  • IEEE Member Dr. Irene E. Kuznetsova chaired the Local Technical Committee.
  • Conference program included 7 Plenary Lectures presented by invited speakers, 36 talks and 23 posters presented by young scientists and students. The presentations were divided in 4 sessions: “Optics and nanophotonics”, “Acousto and magnetoelectronics”, “Nonlinear physics”, “Micro and nanoelectronics, nanomaterials and nanostructures”.
  • Over 100 participants attended the conference including guests from many Russian universities and research institutions.
  • The book of abstracts was published and distributed at the conference.
  • Financial support from the Chapter was $ 400.

2) International Conference “Actual Problems of Electronic Devices Engineering” (APEDE 2010) was held on September 21-23, 2010. It was hosted by Saratov State Technical University (SSTU) with technical and financial co-sponsorship of IEEE Saratov–Penza Chapter.

  • Prof. S.A. Nikitov (Russian IEEE Section Chair, Moscow) was the Program Committee Chairman. Members of Saratov/Penza Chapter played key role in organization of the conference. Prof. A.A. Zakharov was the Program Committee Vice-Chair and Local Organizing Committee Chair, and Dr. Alexei Miroshnichenko (SSTU) served as Executive Secretary. Prof. V.A. Tzarev (SSTU), N.M Ryskin and D.I. Trubetskov (SSU) were the members of Program Committee. Also V.A. Tzarev, N.M Ryskin and A.A. Zakharov served as technical session chairs.
  • 5 Plenary Lectures were presented by invited speakers that are widely known Russian scientists.
  • Nearly 100 talks were presented at 3 sections: 1) Microwave Electronics, including Nanoelectronics; 2) Microwave Theory and Techniques; 3) Power Electronics, Electron Devices, and Instruments Application and Technology.
  • The volume of conference full-text proceedings was published and distributed among the participants. Electronic version of the proceedings was published in the IEEEXplore Digital Library.
  • At the closing ceremony Chapter Chair, Prof. N.M. Ryskin made a presentation with overview of IEEE goals and activities for recruiting new memnbers.
  • Financial support from the Chapter was $ 400.

3) 9-th International Conference “Chaotic Oscillations and Pattern Formation”, October 4-9, 2010, Saratov.

  • IEEE members participated actively in the organization of the conference. Prof. D.I. Trubetskov served as Conference Chair and Chair of the Local Organizing Committee. Prof. Yu. I. Levin served as the Vice-chair of the Local Organizing Committee; Prof. Yu. P. Sharaevsky was a member of the Local Organizing Committee; Prof. S.P. Kuznetsov was a member of the Program Committee.
  • Over 100 participants presented 24 Plenary Lectures, 45 talks, and 87 posters.

  • Special issue of the Russian journal “Applied Nonlinear Dynamics” with selected conference papers will be published in the beginning of 2011.
  • Financial support from the Chapter was $ 400.

4) School “Nonlinear Days in Saratov” for young scientists, postgraduate, undergraduate and pre-college students, November 24–26, 2010. Such schools have been organized each year since 1998 by Saratov State University (SSU) with technical and financial co-sponsorship of Saratov/Penza IEEE Chapter.

  • · IEEE members Prof. Y.I. Levin, Prof. Y.P. Sharaevsky and Prof. N.M. Ryskin served as Organizing Committee members responsible for technical program.
  • · 13 talks and 25 posters were presented by undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • · The volume of conference full-text papers will be published in early 2011.
  • · Financial support from the Chapter was $ 400.

2. Chapter Workshop & IEEE Day celebration information:

On October 7, 2010 Saratov/Penza IEEE Chapter celebrated the IEEE Day by holding its annual Workshop “Electromagnetics of Microwaves, Submillimeter and Optical Waves” in Saratov State University. At the beginning of the Workshop, the 2010 Activity report was presented by the Chapter Chair Prof. N.M. Ryskin. After the workshop, a reception for IEEE members and guests was hold.

  • 12 IEEE Members and 14 guests attended the Workshop.
  • 2010 Chapter activity report was presented by the Chapter Chair, Prof. N.M. Ryskin.
  • 5 talks were presented, concerning various topics of electronics and microwave electrodynamics.
  • Chapter expenses were $ 200.

4. Other Chapter activities:

  • A book of collected papers “Modeling in Applied Electrodynamics and Electronics” Issue 10 (Saratov University Press, ISSN 1816-8221) is in preparation and is expected to be published in spring 2011. Such books has been published each 1-2 years since 1998. Editor in Chief is Prof. M.V. Davidovich (Chapter Vice-Chair). Associate Editor is Prof. N.M. Ryskin (Chapter Chair). The book contains 8 research papers devoted to various problems of electromagnetic theory, simulation of microwave technique (waveguides, resonators, etc.), and vacuum and solid-state electron devices. Chapter expenses are $ 450.
