Summary of the Chapter activities

1. Workshops/Conferences information:

1) The Chapter organized the Workshop “Electromagnetics of Microwaves, Submillimeter and Optic Waves”, Saratov State University, September 28, 2005. Such Workshops have been organized each year since 1997. Since 2004 they have organized as a part of International School for Young Scientists and Students on Optics, Laser Physics and Biophysics “Saratov Fall Meeting” (http://optics.sgu.ru/SFM/2005) in cooperation with Saratov SPIE Chapter.

  • IEEE Chapter Members worked at the Program Committee: Prof. M.V. Davidovich (Chair), Prof. D.I. Trubetskov, Dr. N.M. Ryskin, Dr. I.S. Nefedov.
  • Over 40 participants, including 14 IEEE Members
  • 11 talks and 6 posters devoted to different topics of electromagnetic theory, microwave electronics, and photonics has been presented by the Chapter members and guests. 8 talks and 5 posters were presented by the IEEE Chapter members.

The Chapter also participated in technical and financial co-sponsorship of 2 conferences:

2) Conference “Topical Problems of Radio Engineering and Communications” devoted to the 110th anniversary of the radio invention and 75th anniversary of Saratov State Technical University (SSTU), Saratov, May 18–20, 2005.

  • Chairman — Prof. Vladimir A. Kolomeytsev, IEEE member, SSTU
  • 78 papers presented by scientists and engineers from academia and industry
  • 5 sections: a) Information receiving, transmission and processing, b) Telecommunication systems, c) Electrodynamics and propagation of electromagnetic waves, d) Radio engineering, e) Design of electron devices. Among the most interesting topics there were signal processing by neural networks, design of digital signal processing systems, finite element simulation of complex resonant and waveguide structures, design of vacuum and solid-state microwave electron devices (TWTs, klystrons, magnetrons, FETs, etc.).
  • The volume of full text conference proceedings was published and distributed among the participants.

3) School “Nonlinear Days in Saratov” for young scientists, postgraduate, undergraduate, and pre-college students, Saratov, Russia, November 1-4, 2005. Such Schools are organized each year since 1998.
