Director of the Institute of Continuing Professional Education, SSU, Chair of the Department of International Relations and Russian Foreign Policy, Professor Yurii Golub was awarded with a letter of appreciation by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin for his research and pedagogical affairs, training of qualified specialists and long-term conscientious work. The promotion order was signed on January 24, 2024.
Yurii Golub is Honoured Worker of the Higher School of Russia, a member of the Research-to Methodology Council for History of the Russian Ministry of Higher Education and Science, Full Member of the Academy of Military Science and the Academy of Humanities, a member of the Board of the Association of European Studies.
His research interests are very multifaceted – the systematic study of the international industrial trade unions in the 20th century, important aspects of regional history, little-known plots on the eve and beginning of the Great Patriotic War, as well as the issues of modern international relations. The professor is the author and co-author of monographies, textbooks, and numerous articles, and the responsible editor of collective works.
In 2010, Yurii Golub initiated the establishment of the Department of International Relations and Russian Foreign Policy, which he has chaired. He has supervised 22 PhD and 3 doctoral dissertations in historical and political sciences. Since 2005, he has edited the annual interuniversity collection of research papers entitled Education in the Modern World. In addition, Yurii Golub heads the Modern Eurasian Studies scientific journal.
Yurii Golub was a student and postgraduate at Saratov University, and after successfully presenting his dissertation in 1978, he began his teaching career at SSU. His total working experience is more than 46 years. Over the years, he has developed as an experienced teacher and a prominent scholar, a mentor of the scientific shift and an effective leader. For about eleven years, he worked as an SSU vice-rector.
Since 2004, he has been heading the Institute of Continuing Professional Education, which was established at Saratov State University in 2000. Under his leadership, the institute has become one of the best centres for advanced training in Russia. For many years, the ICPE, SSU, has been providing high-level professional development for the university teaching staff and its colleagues from other universities in the country, as well as expanding the professional opportunities of university graduates by providing them with additional qualifications. For many years, the institute has been working in the region, meeting its needs in improving the skills of certain categories of employees and representatives of partner organisations. At the beginning of 2023, the university became one of the universities participating in the implementation of the Employment Promotion project. 178 people studied via the ICPE. One of the most significant KPIs of the project was the further employment of trained citizens. The university showed the best result among the universities participating in the programme and received the gratitude of the rector of Tomsk State University.
