On April 22, the official ceremony of signing an agreement between SSU and the Museum of Local Lore to open a Corporate Department of Regional History and Museum Management Studies took place at Bldg. X, office 503. The host, Institute of History and International Relations Director T.V. Cherevichko, welcomed the guests and colleagues. She said opening a Department in the Museum was a response to modern challenges and a requirement of modern higher education: a university graduate should have lots of professional skills to succeed at labor market. A new Department would be a link between university and a future employer.
T.V. Cherevichko voiced her hope that new department workers would easily become a part of Institute of History and International Relations staff. She made a presentation about cooperation between the University and the Museum. Saratov University teachers were heads of museum academic councils and directors of the museum. For instance, L.N. Liubomirova was a museum director and a university teacher. SSU scientists together with museum workers published many scientific works and books. Today the academic council of the regional Museum of Local Lore is headed by S.A. Mezin, Chair of SSU Department of History and Archeology.
SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko said it is difficult to find two organizations with such a long and successful history of cooperation in our city. “The Department would give a new impulse to cooperation. I believe university students and teachers and their museum colleagues would find lots of common topics”.
Museum Director E.M. Kazantsev presented a video that outlined the main eras in the museum history. The Museum was opened by Saratov Scientific Archival Commission that also initiated foundation of the first university in the city. According to him, a Corporate Department is a continuation of long friendship. It is proved by numerous conferences jointly held by the Museum, Institute of History and International Relations and Institute of Philology and Journalism. He hoped the Department would attract attention of younger generation. E.M. Kazantsev also mentioned that many museum workers are graduates of Saratov University.
Department of National History and Historiography Chair V.N. Danilov congratulated his colleagues on the memorable event and wished them success at work. He emphasized the fact that opening a department at the Museum is a special case as SSU and the Museum have been working together for so long.
E.M. Kazantsev and A.N. Chumachenko shook hands. That is the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Saratov Region, the University and the Museum.
