Metropolitan Longin performed a Greater consecration of the church

On May 24, Metropolitan of Saratov and Volsk Longin performed a Greater consecration of the church in the name of St. Cyril and Methodius, Equal-to-the-Apostles, and Divine Liturgy in the newly consecrated church. Part of St. Cyril’s hallows was brought in the church before.

The service was attended by Vice-governor, head of governor’s administration D.V. Fadeev, Minister, chair of public relations and national policy B.L. Shinchuk, Rector A.N. Chumachenko, SSU President L.Yu. Kossovich, vice-rectors, university students and staff, church congregation.

A religious procession and a service at the Memorial cross at the Theatre Square took place after the Liturgy. The celebrations ended with a concert of St. Trinity Cathedral chorus at 16:00.

Greater consecration of the church in the name of St. Cyril and Methodius, Equal-to-the-Apostles, was one of the final events of Days of Slavic Writing and Culture celebrations. The celebrations are held annually by Saratov State University and Saratov Episcopacy.

SSU hosts Pimen’s Readings and Days of Slavic Writing and Culture that gather scientists from all over Russia. The University also re-opened the Department of Theology and Religion Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy.

Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus' Kirill performed the lesser consecration of a church in the name of St. Cyril and Methodius, Equal-to-the-Apostles, on October 25, 2014. He awarded the medals of St. Macarius, the Metropolitan of Moscow and all Russia, to SSU President L.Yu. Kossovich and SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko. Associated Professor S.I. Nebaluev got the medal of the Blessed Prince Daniel of Moscow.

On April 16, Metropolitan of Saratov and Volsk Longin consecrated the bells of the church in the name of St. Cyril and Methodius. He congratulated the university staff and the congregation and clanged the bell for the first time.
