Winners and laureates of the IV “Word Power” competition among high school students announced in Saratov Region Duma on May 18.
High school students from Saratov, Engels, Kalininsk, Volsk, Balakovo, Balashov, Petrovsk, Simferopol, Kazan, Penza, Vitebsk, Gomel (Belarus) took part in the competition.
Award ceremony was hosted by Prof. V.V. Prozorov, scientific advisor of the Institute of Philology and Journalism, the visualiser of the competition. In his opening word, he found this competition very special because it is dedicated to the Year of Literature in Russia and to the 70th Anniversary of the Great Patriotic War Victory. “Victory Day is a state and family holiday. Today the great grandchildren of those who earned that victory are present in this room, school students, their parents and teachers. I am happy the number of participants grows every year”.
Presidium members also welcomed the guests. Among them were Saratov Region Duma chair V.V. Kapkaev, chair of the Committee on Culture, social relations, sport, youth issues and information policy A.V. Loseva, deputy minister of education I.V. Sedova, SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko, vice-rector for educational work E.G. Elina, director of the Institute of Philology and Journalism L.S Borisova.
V.V. Kapkaev noticed that school students were very responsible in completing their task and show high level of training. A.V. Loseva highlighted that a word is the most important structural unit of a language and we have to use it wisely. I.V. Sedova congratulated the winners and their teachers.
A.N. Chumachenko awarded SSU certificates. He said “Word Power” competition has become international. SSU Rector thanked V.V. Kapkaev for help in organizing the competition and showed his gratitude to the teachers who trained the participants. “The competition happens at the Year of Literature and of the 70th Anniversary of the Great Patriotic War Victory. I wish all our events take place at time of peace and that we remember May of 1945”.
E.G. Elina awarded certificates of the Institute of Philology and Journalism. “I wish that every word makes good, helps create something, not destroy”.
L.S Borisova awarded prizes at “Voice of Russian classics” and “Journalist Debut” nominations. She also thanked the Institute of Philology and Journalism teachers.
In the intermission, “Voice of Russian classics” contestants gave a concert.
Closing the meeting, V.V. Prozorov invited “Word Power” participants to become Saratov State University students. “The University trains high-level professional in all areas of life. Today each of you is a winner! Live with this victorious feeling and feel that you belong to the Great Victory that made possible our history, our culture, our homeland”.
The competition has 4 nominations: Philological Sketch, Journalist Debut, Imprinted Word, and Voice of Russian Classics. The jury consists of the Institute of Philology and Journalism teachers. The competition is established by Saratov Region Administration, Saratov Region Duma, Saratov State University and organized by the Institute of Philology and Journalism.
