Saratov State University football team won second place at the National Student Football League tournament. At the final match SSU team lost 0:1 to Kuban State University team.
The final part of the tournament took place in Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don on May, 15-17. The finalists were the teams of State Universities from Saratov, Kuban, Kaluga and Tambov.
SSU team started the tournament winning 2:1 the game with Tambov (Dmitriy Krylatov and Aleksandr Konnov scored); on May 16, our team won over Kaluga (Mikhitar Zakharian and Denis Guliaykin made goals). Kuban State University team, SSU’s main opponent, also won in their matches.
Before the final game SSU and KSU teams were even; so the game promised to be crucial and quite difficult. The tension affected Saratov players. On the 20th minute of the final game, Aleksandr Konnov got the read card and had to leave the field. Kuban footballers used this to their advantage and opened the score on the 30th minute. This was the only goal of the game. Saratov team played selflessly in defense and vigorously attacked their competitors, unfortunately without any result.
Kuban University team won the final game 1:0 and became the champion of the National Student Football League tournament. SSU team was second. Kaluga footballers got the third place.
Dmitriy Krylatov became the best frontman of the tournament, and Denis Guliaykin - the best halfback player.
A.D. Alkhanov, Deputy Minister of Justice and one of the primary initiators of the tournament, said the tournament would grow and develop. Next season starts in September and includes 16 teams.
