On May 14, there was another presentation of “Tailored Materials” lab and Innovation and Technology Center “Perspective Materials”. Metropolitan of Saratov and Volsk Longin and deputy chief editor of “Science and Life” journal D.K. Zykov visited the unit. The guests saw innovative products and production samples and had an excursion around the premises. The presentation was given by SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko, President L.Yu. Kossovich, head of the Education and Research Institute of Nanostructures and Biosystems I.V. Kirillova, head of “Tailored Materials” lab Yu.E. Salkovski, Innovation and Technology Center staff.

The excursion started at the process section where medical products with nanofabric membranes are made. Head of “Tailored Materials” lab Yu.E. Salkovski showed adhesive plaster and wound coat samples and told about their advantages. According to him, chitosan-based wound coat accelerates healing and has superb antibacterial characteristics. Metropolitan Longin got interested by the nature of non-fabric materials which, as Yu.E. Salkovski explained, are formed out of polymer solution with the help of electricity. L.Yu. Kossovich added that non-fabric products are undergoing the certification process.

Then the guests visited laboratory and experimental-industrial sections. Their attention focused on the unique equipment used in nanomaterials production. “Tailored Material” lab was opened in collaboration with the Foundation for Prospective Studies and Ministry of Education and Science as part of a megaproject “Defender of the Future”. That is the reason for producing materials for military equipage. SSU President and laboratory scientific advisor L.Yu. Kossovich presented the joint project: “Today we work in three areas: camouflage, defense and ensuring viability. The materials we produce have significant technological advantages”.

The University innovations allow for production of ultrafine air and gas filtration systems, ultrafine liquid filtration systems, materials for energy applications, new construction composite materials.

Metropolitan of Saratov and Volsk Longin was delighted by the university innovations. He said the products made in university prove its high scientific and inducstrial potential.

“Tailored Material” lab is a structural unit of SSU Education and Research Institute of Nanostructures and Biosystems; it is based at Innovation and Technology Center. Its official presentation took place on November 12, 2014.

Saratov State University began its work with nanomaterials in 2007 when it won the innovative educational programs competition. The University founded Education and Research Institute of Nanostructures and Biosystems that developed unique biopolymer chitosan-based wound coat. In 2010, SSU won the national research university competition and founded several innovative centers. These programs allowed to come all the way from lab research to production in a very short time and contributed to creation of a joint project on camouflage materials for military equipage together with the Foundation for Prospective Studies.

Implementation of this project allowed SSU to become FPS partner like federal ministries, state corporations and leading innovative enterprises such as the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Emergency Situations, Roscosmos, Rosnano, Scolkovo, etc.
