On December 19, SSU hosted Academic Council Ceremonial Meeting dedicated to the University’s 105th Anniversary. The event was hosted by vice-rector for educational and organizational work I.G. Malinski and academic secretary I.V. Fedusenko. Institute of Arts chorus sang «Gaudeamus» and the guests watched a film about SSU modern history.
In his report SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko talked about the university foundation history. He remembered the university’s first rector V.I. Razumovski and its architect C.L. Mufke. He also mentioned the first dean of History and Philology Faculty S.L. Frank and a world famous scientist N.I. Vavilov. “During the first years of university history these scientists laid down traditions of education and founded scientific schools that were the base for development of universities in Saratov and other regions”, said the Rector.
He also talked about the difficulties our university went through: the Revolution, Civil war and Great Patriotic war. The Rector mentioned the contribution of V.A. Artisevich who governed the university during war years and was the head of SSU scientific library for 67 years.
A.N. Chumachenko appreciated the contribution of university rectors A.M. Bogomolov and D.I. Trubetskov during the perestroika and the following years.
He specifically talked about 2003-2013 years when L.Yu. Kossovich was the rector. The main university achievements of these years include the winning of innovation projects competition and award of National Research University status, construction of new campus building and dormitories. “L.Yu. Kossovich is new faculties and institutions, new educational programs, education modernization and new educational technologies, a house of young scientists and a swimming pool in Balashov; he symbolizes a new concept of innovative work, research centers and labs that work for the country. He helped developing and strengthening university international relationships and raising its international rating. He understands the university’s economic and social mission. I am truly grateful to L.Yu. Kossovich that he led the most difficult university work”, said A.N. Chumachenko.
Today Saratov State University is a one of the largest educational institutions in the country; it is the leading university that was included in QS international ranking; it has a great research platform and complex infrastructure. Saratov University is among top-20 best university of Russia according to the national university ranking.
A.N. Chumachenko thanked federal and regional administration for their support and particularly deputy head of President Administration V.V. Volodin and Saratov region Governor V.V. Radaev. The rector also thanked regional ministers and ministry workers. He also expressed his gratitude to Metropolitan of Saratov and Volsk Longin.
“All this was made possible only because of people who work at the university. 1554 faculty members, 2605 staff members and 21848 students, 525 graduate students; they are all very creative, highly professional and truly devoted to the university. I wish them health and good luck. I wish that Saratov State University develops further and that its way is joyful and clear”, concluded the Rector.
On behalf of Saratov region Governor and Administration, deputy head of Saratov region Administration M.V. Goremyko congratulated the university staff, the students and alumni with its 105th Anniversary.
Letters of appreciation were awarded to SSU President L.Yu. Kossovich, Chair of the Department of History of Russian Literature and Folklore Yu.N. Borisov, Balashov Institute deputy director for scientific work S.A. Liashko, Chair of the Department of Theology and Religion Studies V.P. Rozhkov, deputy head of Office of Financial Planning K.V. Mokhnatkina, deputy head of the Education Office N.I. Martynova, Dean of Faculty of Physics V.M. Anikin, Professor of the Department of Applied Sociology N.V. Shakhmatova, deputy head of Office of Social Work M.I. Kabanova, director of the Education and research Institute of Nanostructures and Biosystems I.V. Kirillova, Professor of the Department of Mineralogy and Petrography O.P. Goncharenko.
Metropolitan of Saratov and Volsk Longin addressed the party with kind words. He said SSU is “a special university where teaching and research go together; it has a unique educational environment that helps a person in their self-education”. Metropolitan awarded Certificates to Vice-rector for educational work E.G. Elina, Vice-rector for organizational and analytical work T.G. Zakharova and Vice-rector for educational and organizational work I.G. Malinski.
SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko read a letter of congratulation from Federal Inspector in Saratov region M.V. Aleshina and on her behalf awarded Certificates of Merit to the head of the Regional Center of Pre-university Education T.V. Goriunova and the head of the Education Office A.A. Koronovski.
Acting head of Saratov Administration V.V. Dubrivni congratulated the university and called it “a headliner of regional education” Certificates of Merit were awarded to deputy director of the Institute of Sports and Physical Training Yu.V. Perepelitsa, Student Club leader A.A. Timofeev, Associate Professor of the Department of Elementary Language and Literature Education T.G. Firsova, Professor of the Department of Personal Psychology E.V. Riaguzova, Chair of the Department of English Language and its Teaching Methods T.A. Spiridonova.
Then the director of OJSC Research and Production Enterprize “Almaz” N.A. Busuev took the word to congratulate the university. He reminded that the university’s main goal is to prepare highly qualified professionals.
O.B. Sirotinina talked about the university’s past. Her life and work have been closely connected with the university for 73 years. “I have seen many university, and nowhere but here have I experienced this warm and nice atmosphere. Moral sense always wins here. We have lived for 105 years and we are going to live even more!” said the oldest university Professor.
V.F. Kolesnikov spoke on the behalf of the Alumni Association. He thanked the teachers who gave the world a great number of professionals.
The guest saw a show by the university artistic ensembles. The meeting finished with the university anthem sung by the Institute of Arts chorus. The guests got photo albums dedicated to the university’s 105th Anniversary.
