Saratov University Has Celebrated the 100th Anniversary of Liberal Arts Education
The 100th Anniversary of Liberal Arts Education in Saratov University and the Saratov Region was organized in Bldg. X December, 19th.
At the beginning the audience watched a short documentary devoted to the scientists of Saratov University. After that the guests enjoyed “Gaudeamus” sang by the Choir of the Institute of Arts.
The event hosts were Ye.G. Yelina, Vice-Rector for Educational Work, and I.G. Makinskiy, Vice-Rector for Educational and Organizational Work.
Then there was showed the video about the foundation of the Faculty of History and Philology and the Faculty of Law. It was directed by the SSU Film Studio and over voiced by Scientific advisor of SSU Institute of Philology and Journalism V.V. Prozorov. The audience was reminded about the first Dean of the Faculty of History and Philology S.L. Frank, historians V.A. Butenko and S.B. Yushkov, philologists M.R. Vasmer, N.K. Piksanov, and A.P. Skaftymov, lawyers N.V. Boldyrev and G.G. Telberg. Nowadays their names are well-known around the world.
SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko greeted the guests and also spoke about the first years of our university and the input of the Provisional Government to the university foundation. As a result, it became the first center of the classical higher education in the south-eastern Russia. The rector underlined the fact that SSU graduates – specialists of liberal arts – are highly valued. Besides he enumerated different events dedicated to the anniversary: conferences, panel discussions, and the International Scientific Symposium called “The Epoch Dialogue: the Past, the Present, and the Future”. Aleksei Nikolayevich congratulated his colleagues as they preserve the cultural heritage of the region and the country.
On behalf of Governor of the Region Deputy Chair of the Regional Government V.V. Grechushkina congratulated the audience and highlighted the importance of traditions in the modern IT world. Valentina Vladimirovna awarded Professors V.I. Kashcheyev and O.B. Sirotinina with the title of Honorary Educator. Letters of award of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation were given to some members of the professor staff: Ye.V. Berdnikova, G.A. Nikitina, S.V. Sitnikova, Ye.N. Toguzayeva, V.A. Chalokhyan, R.M. Shamionov, T.B. Obert, I.A. Knigin, V.A. Maksimov, L.S. Borisova, and Ye.A. Aleksandrova.
Chief Federal Inspector in the Saratov Region M.V. Alyoshina highlighted the significance of university scientific schools. Deputy of the Saratov Duma, Chair of the Legislation Committee on Culture, Social Relations, and Information Policy A.V. Losina wished the staff to become successful on behalf of Chair of the Saratov Duma, I.G. Kuzmin, and its Deputies.
Mitropolitan Longin of Saratov and Volsk reminded that December, 19th, is St. Nicholas Day, and Saratov University was named after Emperor Nicholas II in 1909. He said that theology had been included into university syllabuses again. Thus, there was opened the Department of Theology and Religion Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy. The Mitropolitan presented letters of award to the following university Professors and Associate Professors: Yu.G. Golub, Ye.A. Aleksandrova, D.M. Sokolova, M.A. Bogatov, Ye.G. Yelina, and I.G. Malinskiy.
Appointed Minister of Education of the Saratov Region I.V. Sedova congratulated the guests, too, and gave certificates of honor to the following Professors and Associate Professors: V.N. Danilov, A.S. Kuznetsov, I.V. Kutyrev, S.A. Mezin, Ya.A. Nikiforov, L.N. Meshchanova, and V.P. Totfalushin.
Associate Professors – S.A. Danilov, V.G. Semyonova, and O.Yu. Chelnokova – received certificates of honor from Appointed Head of the Kirov District V.I. Karpov.
Saratov University was also congratulated by Rector of Makhambet Utemisov West Kazakhstan State University A.S. Imangaliyev, Rector of Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda State University K.A. Bisenov, Rector of Yerevan State University and Corresponding Member of Armenian Academy of Sciences A.G. Simonyan, a famous philologist and a friend of Yu.M. Lotman B.F. Yegorov, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy of Lomonosov Moscow State University V.V. Mironov, Honorary Teacher of Russia L.N. Kornilova, and Deputy of the State Duma T.V. Kasayeva.
Moreover, 146 liberal arts university professors will be awarded with certificates of honor at Academic Council Meetings while SSU Rector gave them to Deans of Faculties and Directors of Institutes: L.N. Aksenovskaya, O.S. Balash, S.G. Ivchenkov, G.N. Komkova, P.Z. Nazarova, I.A. Rakhimbayeva, and T.V. Cherevichko.
The audience enjoyed the performance by the future enrollees – members of the “Top-Top” Academy.
Then Ye.G. Yelina read congratulatory addresses from Deputy of the State Duma N.V. Pankov and President of the Russian Academy of Education L.A. Verbitskaya. Two books were presented by Director of the Institute of History, International Relations and Social Technologies of Volgograd State University Ye.N. Vasilyeva.
What is more, the guests listened to Pontifical Choir with Rector of Saratov State Conservatoire A.G. Zanorin as its precentor, and it helped them move 100 years back.
